FLAT ROCK, TUGUN, QUEENSLAND (Saturday, 5 October, 2024) – Flat Rock came alive today as more than 100 groms from far and wide descended on the Gold Coast for the Oceanside GromQuest pres. by The Board Lab. The swell rolled in with strong northwest winds, offering tricky but exciting conditions for the junior surfers.
The opening day of competition saw an array of male and female surfers, from Under 10 parent-assist divisions all the way to the marquee Under 18 boys and girls divisions.
Under 12 boys top ranked surfer, Thomas Bourke, launched his campaign with a bang, putting on an excellent display of surfing and securing the highest total of the morning (15 out of a possible 20 points).
Notable performers in the Under 14 boys division included Rayden Fukuda, Lucas Deffenti, Ky Clements, and Luca Martin, dominated their heats, setting the stage for an exciting final day of action tomorrow.
Ziggy Mackenzie, the Under 16 Junior World Champion, expressed her excitement after winning her heat in the Under 18 division, bringing her one step closer to claiming an Oceanside electric bike.
“It would be such a dream to win an Oceanside e-bike at this competition, it is one of the reasons why I am competing at GromQuest,” said Mackenzie.
